Lulu

Available On: 1/31/12

Apply To Adopt

Lulu is a sweet and docile 3 year old Siberian Husky whoo appears to be purebred. Her coat is sott and beautifully colored a light amber. Picuters do not do her justice at all and she was just spayed so is a bit under the weather in the picture of her in her crate. She likes her crate as long as the door is open and she can leave if she wants to. She is house trained and pretty well behaved in the house. She was rescued from a high volume shelter in TN where her time was almost up. She received her second health certificate on 1/31/12 and is now spayed (2/1) and ready to find a home of her own. She cannot go with cats as she will chase them. She is friendly to men and women alike. She loves pats, loves attention, and loves the outdoors. She will need a flexible household where someone is home. As she is young and still needs training, you would not want to leave her to have own devices. She would do best in a country or suburban setting and husky experience is desired as the breed has some quirkiness that might stress out your average dog owner. Please fill out our online application if you are interested and we can begin the adoption conversation. We like to meet the whole household when you come to meet our dogs for adoption. Our shelter hours are posted on the web site.

Available On: 1/30/12

Apply To Adopt

Boo is a 30 lb Basenji mix. He is really a sweet and lovable fellow. He was pulled from a pound and was fostered with 4 Boston Terriers befre traveling to Save A Dog. He's a smart dog. After his neuter surgery, his foster mom put an ice pack down in front of the fire place and he went over and sat on it. He loves to give kisses even to the other dogs. He knows sit and he seems to know the down command. He lets us know when he needs to go out at night. He does lay down and roll on his side or back when a voice is raised but he doesn't seem frightened, just submissive. If he's lying down his tail continues to wag! He just plain loves to be with everyone and every canine. Boo is now in a foster home and doing great. He is totally crate trained, housetrained, loves all people, and loves to play with other dogs. He is very active and would benefit from a fenced in yard. Pllease fill out an application if you would like to meet him.

Update: Quimby's adoption fell through and in the meantime, he needed stitches in his leg, then a week later more stitches and a drain. Donations would greatly help him out. Quimby is an awesome dog who we took from Animal Control a few weeks ago where he was boarded at a vet hospital. He is the most submissively sweet dog you will ever meet. He's in a foster home now with a Boxer pup and she kicks his butt. He's just the biggest baby and loves to play with other dogs. Quimby is a 1 and a half year old neutered hunky male who weighs about 53 pounds. He's not only good with other dogs, but loves people, is perfect in his crate and doesn't destroy bedding or toys. He never barks and even when there were other barking dogs in the kennel, he never joined in. If he sees you, he goes and gets a toy and comes to you with a low wag. There is not a nicer dog than Quimby. He seems to be great with cats too. Nevertheless, he is a strong boy and needs someone with either breed experience or large breed experience and preferably someone who can exercise him. We use the Gentle Walk harness and he does great on it. If you're interested in meeting Quimby, please fill out our online application under "Apply to Adopt".

Curly

Available On: 9/12/11

Apply To Adopt

January 16 Update: CURLY HAS HIS SURGERY TOMORROW! SAY A PRAYER FOR HIM! 12/6/ update on Curly: He was all set for his surgery on 12/6 but the surgeon called and said his bones were very immature and that he needs another month to grow in order for the surgery to be successful. So we will take him to water therapy and continue the raw diet, supplements, and confinement. It's going to be a long month for Curly and his foster mom. Update as of 11/28/11. Curly has a rupture ACL and needs surgery immediately, so we will do a fund raiser, but not delay the surgery. Please keep him in your prayers for a speedy recovery. We will keep you posted as to his progress. Update as of 11/17/11: Curly has been getting chiropractic treatments to deal with a limp he developed after a collision with other dogs while playing. He had it xrayed last week and has an appointment on the 28th for an orthopedic work up. At that time we will determine if he needs surgery or if the therapy he's already been getting is enough. We are asking for a few sponsors to help pay for his therapy and xray expenses. Curly is a stunningly handsome Lab mix who came to us from rural Indiana. He came up with his siblings and all three pups are just about the sweetest, most submissive pups you will ever meet. Curly (you can change his name) is in a foster home and has been treated for an unknown injury that causes him to limp. His foster mom says: Curly is working on his commands, come, sit, stay, down, and stand. I think he is very smart because it has not taken him long to 'get it.' He is walking beautifully on the leash as well. He likes children as my neighbor does daycare and I had them come to meet him. He loves to play with all the toys and chew on the bones (old ones). He likes to be with me as he is at my feet while I am at the computer. He goes down when he does not want to go somewhere. Fortunately he is easy to pick up. He is in his crate in my office at night and when I am out. He whines a little when I go out but he settles down quickly at night. He loves to have his belly rubbed. He has a gentle spirit. Please read up on our holistic protocol so you can save money at the vet while keeping your puppy very healthy. Their history: they were born on April 14, 2011 to a medium sized mixed breed female dog who appeared to have some Cattle dog in her, but the father was a black Lab. Curly has a white chest of curly hair, hence the name; He likes water…loves the pool, toys and playing with other dogs. He is fine in the car, not mouthy, so an easy dog for a family with children. Please apply online if you are interested and we will be in touch with you within a day or two.

Jake is super sweet black Lab who ended up in a high volume shelter where dogs are euthanized for space. He is a very nice dog, already neutered. He looks purebred. We'll quarantine him as is mandatory and have the vet check him over on 1/31. He already has one health certificate, but MA requires two for out of state dogs. Please stay tuned for more information and a better picture. Doesn't he look sad? It's because of where he was at the time the picture was taken.

Star

Apply To Adopt

Star is a 5 and a half year old spayed female long-haired Dachshund (purebred) who was turned in because her owners work long hours and are starting to travel more frequently. She was raised with a Labradoodle and got along fabulously with him. She weighs around 30 lbs, so she needs to lose some weight. She was on a corn-based diet so the weight should come off quickly with a grain-free food and some exercise. She's a sweet dog. Her tail never stops wagging and everyone is her best friend. She's a quiet dog, not a barker. She likes sleeping on the end of the bed or on the couch and she can be a lap dog. She can be the boss of the other dog dog (which is typical for female dogs ), but has been very sweet and submissive with dogs she's met at Save A Dog. She has never been exposed to cats. She can last all day in the house, but no more than 6 hours without being let out. She was raised with teens. She is trained on the invisible fence. She loves to chase a ball and never tires of playing fetch. She was groomed regularly and sometimes wears little bows in her hair. The groomer said she was easy to handle and has a warm personality. She has been kept up to date on vaccines with annual vet visits. She is not on any medications. She was raised with teenaged boys. Please apply online if you would like to meet her as the likelihood of her being in a foster home is high. She would be a great dog for someone with teens or for an adult household with a male dog as that would closely match her current enviornment. She comes from a working family home so that would be alright as well.

Kelly is a smallish 2 year old spayed female mixed breed dog. She has a naturally bobbed tail. We're guessing Min Pin, but she could have some Aussie in her and a host of other breeds. She's a real mutt and a real doll too. She and Frankie are kennel mates so she gets alone fine with other dogs. She is aleady spayed. She likes to go on walks and sometimes thinks she's a lap dog. She is very much the talker when she is crated, and waiting her turn to be walked. She and Frank are best buddies. She appears to be crate trained, eager to come out of her crate as soon as the door opens. She knows exactly what she is supposed to do when she goes outside, and runs up to you when she is finished. Smart girl!! Please fill out an application online to speed the process, or if you already have an application with us, just send us an email to express your interest in her and we will get back to you within a few days.

Available On: 12/6/11

Apply To Adopt

Stephanie is an ADORABLE very petite black Lab mix. She was born on 04/23/11. She looks like a miniature Lab, but has those ears that stick to the sides, like the Flying Nun. She weighs 26 lbs and has lots of energy and loves to play. Update from Stephanie's foster mom: Stephanie lights up my day! She has learned that belly rubs are the ‘bomb’, and now knows how to climb in my lap and lay backwards so that I can reach her underbelly. She knows when it is time to eat – bolts for her crate and does the ‘happy dance’ inside while I walk towards her with her bowl of food. She has no fear of any other dogs, but also plays so well with the 5 other resident dogs (all sizes, big and small) – respectful of her place in the pecking order. And yet, she does love, love, love to be the center of attention. She walks well on a leash, but gets a little skittish in high traffic areas. She gives me hugs and kisses for as long as I let her, but then will go play with her toys and keeps herself occupied. She is tentative around strangers, but with a handful of treats she is your best friend. She is getting much better at letting me know when it is time to go ‘out’, and is in complete control in her crate." Please fill out an application if you'd like to meet Stephanie.

Hi there! My name is Riley. I am a wonderful 8 year old female black lab/mix. I have been a great family dog, endured playing dress up and having my nails painted. My children are now teens and the family has moved to smaller quarters and I'm now they are moving again with someone who has allergies. I do not have accidents and has no separation anxiety behaviors. Her mother was a pure bred black lab and the father is unknown, she was adopted at 8 weeks from a shelter in Virginia that took in the unwanted mixed puppies. I weigh 75 pounds. My health is excellent and I am up to date on vaccines. I love ALL people and am good with all ages of children. I love other dogs. I like to chase cats because I never met one until recently, so no cats for me. I can be a couch potato, but I like leash walks and am great on leash. I like to play fetch. I was crate trained years ago, but have not needed a crate for years. Please apply online so that I can be brought to the shelter to meet you.

Available On: 9/30/11

Apply To Adopt

Katie is a ~5 year old spayed female Min Pin who is has so much to offer. She is fully house broken, walks beautifully on leash, and loves people, men and women.. She knows how to "sit pretty" and spins when you bring out a treat. She was probably an only dog as she's a little diva and she has great communication skills -- she's really tuned into you. We think she would love to be an only pet as she is so people-focused, craving for that one on one attention. We feel Katie would just love to have her own family and it could be a retired couple, or single or a multiple person home. She's so lovable! Her story is this and you won't believe it: she fell on hard times as she was found in a ditch taking care of her puppies. She's 11 lbs and is a nice peppy little dog (not a couch potato), sweet, and a cuddler. She is on Fromm Gold, a high quality food, so we're looking for an adopter who will treat her like a queen from here on out. She doesn't like sharing the human with other dogs so we think she would do best as an only dog. She is almost human herself, according to her foster mom. She listens to everything she says and seems to understand every word. She is in a foster home so please fill out the application so we can arrange for you to meet her. Please read up on our holistic protocol and fill out the application online so we can be in touch with you.

She loves other dogs and would love to go to a home with other dogs. She's not been exposed to cats or kids.   Frankie, 14 months Male Pug  Mix
Frankie

Adoption Pending

Frankie is an adorable 14 month old male Pug mix. He has a serious face, but is quite a nice, mellow dog. Frankie spells fun. He enjoys a good romp but is always ready for a snuggle. He's quiet and calm in his crate and is fully housebroken- no accidents. He's been doing well on a leash on our walks. A very sweet guy! His favorite things so far are belly rubs and squeak toys. He weighs 35 lbs and has a thick coat, so is bigger than your average Pug. We're guessing Aussie, but it's only a guess based on the coat. He's learning to walk on leash. Update from Frankie's foster: "Although Frankie was a little nervous on the car ride home, he quickly became acclimated to the house and yard. He enjoys running around the yard, and I also walked him short distances on the leash on our street, and he handled that well. He plays with his toys and is very affectionate." Frankie can be afraid of men when he first meets them but if given time and space, he warms up quickly. His foster dad kept his distance for an hour or two when first introduced and Frankie stayed crated. When he came out of his crate, he let his foster dad pet him, and they became fast friends. Since he is a little shy, we think he may need a fenced in yard for safety reasons. He did not pay any attention to the cats that roamed free at the kennel where he was boarded prior to coming to Save A Dog. Please fill out an application online if you are interested in meeting him. We prefer an application ahead of time and it speeds the process for you as well because online applications go out to our team whereas the ones filled out in the Lobby are not as easy for our Adoption Counselors to access. Check our Web site for Meet-and-Greet hours, which are held at the shelter.

Little molly is a 3 1/2 month old choclate lab mix. She and 2 other puppies were abondoned in a neighborhood and she was the only one left by the time a caring young man found her and took her home with him. Now she is ready to find a family of her own that will love her. Molly is a little angel and a little devil all rolled into one cute bundle, as most puppies are. She loves to play with the big dogs at her foster home, loves toys and just about anything else. She plays outdoors like the best of them, but loves to snuggle up and watch tv. She still has some puppy fuzz on her head so she looks a little silly right now, but it adds to her fun personality -- you have to smile when you look at her. She is medium level energy and has the cutest little excited woo woo barky thing she does when excited to see you. She is not timid or shy and loves people, She will be available around 1/31.

Adoption in Progress

Molly is a two year old female Beagle/Basset mix (we call them "Bagels") who came to us from a local breeder. She was not cut out for field trial hunting, but would rather smell the roses or sit by the fire. She very gentle and very docile. She only vocalizes when she's not happy and that's when she's kenneled so we're working on her house training so she can go to a home where there is minimal crating. She's great with kids and seems gentle enough for little ones, although will need to be tested. We don't know how she is with cats, but given that she was a failed hunting dog we think she might ignore them (no guarantees, though). She recently spayed (1/26/12) so is still recovering, but you can come meet her by the weekend. She has beautiful coloring and will be the darling of someone's life. You can just tell.
