Apply To Adopt

If you're looking for a Lab without all the "Lab craziness" you might want to consider Gypsy. She is an adult Lab and finished with all the puppy nonsense. Gypsy is a beautiful 6 year old Black Lab mix who would make a great dog for someone who wants a companion. Her foster mom says: She is super sweet, has not barked ever, is totally house broken, loves people, loves to play. She's quiet in the crate but once established in her home will not need the crate. She is crated because there are other dogs in the house. She is really quiet and so so sweet. She was adopted 3 years ago and has been living in a home with a young couple, but was returned because she was nervous around the toddler. She is leash trained and knows some commands. She likes to hang out with her people and is a mild mannered dog. Please fill out an application if you are interested and we'll be in touch with you right away. We will consider a foster-to-adopt situation for her.

He enjoys long walks and lying in the sun. He is crate trained and seems house broken. He's neutered and up to date on his vaccines. He's good on leash, but will sometimes jump up to greet people so we're working on that. He's available around 5/15/13. Pictures don't capture his essence. Caesar is a really nice one year old Black Lab / Collie / Shepherd mix who deserves a great home. He was abused by someone and has a large scar on his back, but he has not held it against people. He was found with his head stuck in a pipe and a wound on his hind quarter that looks like it was either some hot oil thrown on him or a machete cut. Despite his scar he is a wonderful dog who seems to get along with dogs and cats and has shown no signs of aggression. He is quiet in his kennel, even while all the other dogs are barking. He is joyful and friendly. Amazing! He comes from St. Thomas where he was scheduled to be euthanized. In New England he will have a chance at finding a great home. Please, let's have it be his forever home with lots of love and reward-based training. He's had enough punishment to last a life-time. We prefer no electric fence for this lovable dog. He is available after his neuter, but can be seen during our shelter hours (posted on Web site). He weighs 48 lbs. He will be neutered on Thursday, the 16th, but you can meet him on the 15th from 2-6 PM.

Mufasa is an adorable Shepherd / Lab mix who was born in November 2011. He weighs around 45 lbs. He likes everyone he meets. He is happy happy happy! He was raised with two other dogs and he loves to play. Right now his best friend is a female Lab. He is a friendly, joyful pup who has learned a lot since he's come to Save A Dog. He's playful and is respectful of the other pups. He is small for a Shepherd, on the shorter side, built more like a Lab. His pictures don't do him justice. He's full grown at about 45 lbs. He is very playful and friendly. He jwould be too much for small or timid children, though but tweens and up would be awesome. He loves to play with toys and chase a ball. He came right to the temperament tester wanting to show her a toy and give kisses. He wasn't raised with cats. We cat-tested him and he was interested, but was easily distracted away from them. He would do fine with a dog-savvy cat and an adopter who will keep up the training. He is available now. Please fill out the online application at www.saveadog.org as that will help to speed the process.

Just when things seemed their worse, a kind soul rescued Ruger and treated him for heart worm. He is the sweetest dog and very gentle. He tends to be more fond of women over men. While on the loose, he got along with the other dogs, including intact males that lived on the county road. Hi there. My name is Barkley and I'm a fun guy. I am a one year old Great Pyr / Golden Retriever / Collie and I'm very playful. I like to bounce around the yard and I love attention. I love to play with other dogs, but I'm too active for a small dog. I like my walks and like to sniff out the squirrels and chipmunks. I will wait until you unhook my leash and am used to getting a treat afterwards. I am house trained as long as I get to go outside frequently. I'm not a dog to stay home all day while you're away. I am good in the car and I love to go for rides. I'm crate trained. I'm passed the cat test with flying colors. I weigh 59#. I'm available around 5/15/13. Please fill out an application online if you're interested in me. Thanks so much! Note from shelter: Thanks for your patience and understanding that we are volunteer based and try to consider the dogs' needs as well as the needs of the potential adopter. Rather than sell a dog, we prefer to make the right match for both the dog and the human.

Adoption in Progress

Wally is a 2 year old neutered male Golden who needs a stable home as he has been bounced around a lot. His first owner bought him from the breeder, but when their son turned a year, he developed allergies. The family gave him to an older woman who wanted him for a walking partner, and of course he didn't walk calm enough on lead for her. She didn't want to get pulled down, so she surrendered him, and the shelter immediately called rescue. He's a BIG Golden who needs a lot of exercise. According to his paperwork, he gets along with everyone. He is housebroken, and gets along with other animals, including cats. He is a little hyper, like many young retrievers. We're going to want a stable home who has the trainer already lined up and who will exercise him. He will need to be kept on the Fromm and not on the cancer-causing grocery store food. He rides well in the car and he loves bath time. Like a typical Golden, he loves the water. He will chase chickens. He is currently crate trained, and the adopter will need to keep up with crating and also exercising. He will be available the week of May 13th. Goldens need to be on a holistic protocol and we're happy to guide his adopter in that respect. Thanks for your patience and understanding that we are volunteer based and try to consider the dogs' needs as well as the needs of the potential adopter. Rather than sell a dog, we prefer to make the right match for both the dog and the human. Local adopters only. Olivia Olivia is almost 16 weeks old and is a Retriever mix. Olivia's brothers looked just like black labs ( those we were unable to get). Olivia was part of a litter being sold out of the back of a car in a Walmart parking lot. She has really come around as she was quite timid when we first got her but now is much more social and enjoys being touched and played with. She Is doing better with house training, but not there yet. Olivia has no problem going into her crate. But really loves to snuggle up with you for her naps. She has learned to sit (for treats). She has lots of puppy energy and loves to wrestle with Brady and Jack. She has allergies that we're giving her supplements for. She will be available 4/20/13.
