Sheryl's Corner

Our dear friend and faithful volunteer, Sheryl Palmer, recently lost her battle with breast cancer. She was irreplaceable. Sheryl is a long-time friend of founders Shirley Moore and David Bernier as well as a close friend of many Save A Dog volunteers, including director Valerie Alterio. Sheryl was the Web designer and implementer of our Web site as well as many Web sites for businesses in the Boston area and in her current residence of Naples, FL. There are no words to express such a tremendous loss. While living in MA she was a regular helper with the dog chores and Shirley's right arm and confidante. After she moved to Naples four years ago she continued to carry the lion's share of the work on the Web site as well as answering emails and anything she could do to help the cause from a distance.

To honor Sheryl Palmer's love of flowers and dogs, we are creating a garden corner at our new location called Sheryl's Corner. It will have a nice bench and plantings where people can sit and reflect. Oftentimes when people are deciding on whether to adopt a certain dog they have just met, they will ask for a few moments to sit and think about it or to talk with family members. Sheryl's corner will provide a nice quiet setting for people to sit and reflect on life decisions such as adding a new dog to their family. Donations can be made to Sheryl's Fund at Save A Dog, PO Box 1108, Framingham, MA 01701.

We invite you to memorialize your beloved pet on our Memorial page. A minimum donation of $35 will help to defray the Web site expenses and support a needy dog as well. If you don't have a digital photo, please mail your photo and we will scan them in. Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you would like your picture returned.

In Memory of Tovah, our Katrina rescue.

We will miss you so much as will all the folks at Sunrise Assisted Living, who cared for you so well with lots of love and daily adorations. I'll never forget the time we visited and you were lying in the middle of the floor surrounded by seniors singing karaoke songs to you. We will miss you but we're comforted knowing you spent your final days in bliss.

THE RAINBOW BRIDGE     Author Unknown

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

MORE THAN AN ANGEL     Author Unknown

The young pup and the older dog lay on shaded sweet grass watching the reunions.

Sometimes a man, sometimes a woman, sometimes a whole family would approach the Rainbow Bridge, be greeted by their loving pets and cross the bridge together.

The young pup playfully nipped at the older one. "Look! Something wonderful is happening!" The older dog stood up and barked, "Quickly, get over to the path."

"That's not my owner," whined the pup, but he did as he was told. Thousands of pets surged forward as a figure in white walked on the path toward the bridge. After the glowing figure passed each animal, that animal bowed it's head in love and respect.

The figure finally approached the bridge, and was met by a menagerie of joyous animals. Together, they walked over the bridge and disappeared.

The young pup was still in awe. "Was that an angel?" he whispered.

"No, son," the older dog replied. "That was more than an angel. That was a person who worked rescue.

IF IT SHOULD BE     Author Unknown

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand.
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years.
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
The time has come -- please let me go.

Take me where my need they'll tend,
And please stay with me till the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Please do not grieve -- it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years;
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.
